Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium heat.
  5. Pour batter onto the hot griddle using a heart-shaped cookie cutter or freehand to create heart shapes.
  6. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Serve immediately topped with fresh berries, powdered sugar (optional), and maple syrup.
