Method
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan. Cut bread into 1-inch cubes. Spread half in pan.
- Beat cream cheese, confectioners’ sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla until smooth. Drop spoonfuls on bread. Layer remaining bread on top.
- Whisk eggs, milk, cinnamon, brown sugar, and remaining vanilla. Pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate for 3-24 hours.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Remove pan from refrigerator.
- Whisk brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Cut in butter. Sprinkle over bread.
- Bake uncovered for 45-55 minutes until golden brown. Drizzle with maple syrup or dust with confectioners’ sugar. Serve warm.
- Cover leftovers and store in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use challah or brioche bread.
