  • 1 loaf brioche bread cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 Pinch salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter melted
  • maple syrup, fresh berries, powdered sugar Optional toppings

Method
 

  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange brioche cubes evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the brioche cubes, pressing down gently.
  5. Drizzle melted butter over the top.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Remove plastic wrap and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving. Top with desired toppings.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use challah bread instead of brioche. You can also add chocolate chips or nuts to the casserole before baking.
