Method
- Heat vegetable oil with star anise and cinnamon for 1-2 minutes.
- Add garlic and ginger; sauté until fragrant and golden.
- Remove from heat; stir in sesame oil and soy sauce.
- Pour hot oil over chili flakes; let sizzle for a minute.
- Stir in sugar; cool to room temperature.
- Strain solids or leave in; store in a jar.
