Chili Oil

A flavorful homemade chili oil perfect for drizzling over dishes or adding heat to recipes.

Ingredients
  

Oil
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup dried chili flakes
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons ginger, sliced
  • 1 star anise star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick cinnamon stick
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Method
 

  1. Heat vegetable oil with star anise and cinnamon for 1-2 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and ginger; sauté until fragrant and golden.
  3. Remove from heat; stir in sesame oil and soy sauce.
  4. Pour hot oil over chili flakes; let sizzle for a minute.
  5. Stir in sugar; cool to room temperature.
  6. Strain solids or leave in; store in a jar.

Notes

Adjust chili flakes for desired heat level.
