Ingredients
  

Dried and Stale Croissants
  • 6 pieces croissants slightly stale or a day old
  • 2 cups mixed berries blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, or blackberries
  • 1.5 cups whole milk
  • 1.5 cups heavy cream
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest optional, for citrus flavor

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch dish.
  2. Slice croissants and arrange in dish; scatter berries on top.
  3. Whisk eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, and sugar; pour over croissants and berries.
  4. Let soak for 15–20 minutes or refrigerate overnight.
  5. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and set; cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar.

Notes

For extra flavor, add lemon zest to the custard mixture.
