Ingredients
  

Potatoes
  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
Cream
  • 2 cups heavy cream
Cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Onion
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
Butter
  • 2 tablespoons butter
Flour
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Salt
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Black Pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Melt butter, sauté onions, then stir in flour and cook 1 minute.
  3. Whisk in heavy cream, salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika; cook until thickened.
  4. Layer potatoes in a greased dish, pour half of the cream, sprinkle half of the cheese. Repeat.
  5. Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes, then uncover and bake 15-20 minutes until golden.
  6. Let cool briefly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of cayenne or herbs.
