Ingredients
  

Bread
  • 8 ounces French bread (about ½ loaf), cut into cubes
Eggs
  • 5 large large eggs
Milk
  • 2 cups whole milk
Butter
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
Vanilla Extract
  • 2 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
Ground Cinnamon
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
Brown Sugar (Topping)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons brown sugar for topping
Optional Toppings
  • powdered sugar, fresh berries, maple syrup as desired

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Create a caramelized layer with butter and brown sugar in a baking dish.
  3. Layer bread cubes over the caramelized mixture.
  4. Mix eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and pour over bread. Top with brown sugar.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes, then add optional toppings before serving.

Notes

Use day-old bread for best results and add toppings just before serving for extra flavor.
