Ingredients
  

Bread
  • 8 ounces French bread (about ½ loaf), cut into cubes
Eggs
  • 5 large large eggs
Milk
  • 2 cups whole milk
Butter
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
Vanilla Extract
  • 2 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
Cinnamon
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
Brown Sugar (Topping)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons brown sugar for topping
Optional Toppings
  • powdered sugar, fresh berries, maple syrup as desired

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Create caramelized layer with butter and brown sugar in a baking dish.
  3. Layer bread cubes over the caramel layer.
  4. Mix eggs, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon; pour over bread.
  5. Add toppings and bake for 40 minutes.

Notes

Use day-old bread for best results and serve with your favorite toppings.
