Ingredients
  

Bread
  • 4 slices Stale white bread or brioche Cubed
  • 1 1/2 cups Whole milk
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1/4 cup Raisins or other dried fruits (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (for vanilla sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar (for vanilla sauce)
  • 1/2 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (for vanilla sauce)

Method
 

  1. Cube the bread and soak in a custard made of eggs, milk, sugars, vanilla, and cinnamon for 20-30 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and butter a baking dish.
  3. Pour the soaked bread into the dish and bake for 45-50 minutes until golden and set.
  4. Prepare vanilla sauce by melting butter, dissolving sugar, adding cream, simmering, then stirring in vanilla.
  5. Cool slightly, then serve the bake with vanilla sauce or toppings of choice.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use brioche bread and add dried fruits.
