  • 6 slices bread cubed
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese cheddar or your choice
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • cooked turkey ham or beef sausage Optional, chopped

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  3. Spread cubed bread evenly in the dish.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cheese, onion, salt, and pepper.
  5. If using, add chopped turkey ham or beef sausage to the egg mixture.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the bread in the baking dish.
  7. Gently press the bread down into the egg mixture.
  8. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown and set.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use whole milk or add a splash of cream. You can also add vegetables like bell peppers or spinach.
