Method
- Arrange bread slices in a greased 9x13-inch dish.
- Whisk custard ingredients and pour over bread. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Prepare streusel by mixing flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in butter until coarse crumbs form.
- Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Sprinkle streusel over bread.
- Bake uncovered for 45-55 minutes, until golden and custard is set.
- Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving with toppings.
Notes
For best results, use day-old challah or brioche bread. Soaking the bread overnight allows it to fully absorb the custard.
