Bread
  • 8 ounces French bread about ½ loaf, cut into cubes
Eggs
  • 5 large eggs
Milk
  • 2 cups whole milk
Butter
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
Sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
Vanilla Extract
  • 2 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
Ground Cinnamon
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon divided
Brown Sugar (Topping)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons brown sugar for topping
Optional Toppings
  • powdered sugar, fresh berries, maple syrup optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Create a caramelized layer with ½ cup butter and 1 cup brown sugar, then spread over the bread cubes.
  3. Layer the bread cubes in a baking dish and sprinkle with 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon.
  4. Mix eggs, milk, vanilla, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon; pour evenly over the bread.
  5. Sprinkle 1 ½ tablespoons brown sugar on top and bake for 40 minutes until golden.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a drizzle of maple syrup or fresh berries before serving.
