Ingredients
  

Bread
  • 8 ounces French bread (about ½ loaf), cut into cubes
Eggs
  • 5 large large eggs
Milk
  • 2 cups whole milk
Butter
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
Vanilla Extract
  • 2 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
Ground Cinnamon
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
Brown Sugar (Topping)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons brown sugar for topping
Optional Toppings
  • powdered sugar, fresh berries, maple syrup Optional toppings for serving

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Create caramel layer with butter and brown sugar, then layer bread cubes on top.
  3. Mix eggs, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon; pour over bread. Add cinnamon on top.
  4. Bake for 40 minutes until golden. Add brown sugar topping and serve with optional toppings.

Notes

For a richer flavor, let the casserole sit for 10 minutes before baking.
